Year of Prayer

Year of Prayer

As the Year of Prayer approaches its end, a few special activities remain on the calendar.  We have been blessed with glorious weather for this year’s Prayer Walks and one opportunity remains on Friday 5 October at 10:30am, for Autumn Colours when we will be walking from Jevington to Folkington.

Those with a particular interest in the natural world might also like to sit down and enjoy The Hebrides: A Challenging Spiritual Journey on Tuesday 2 October at 7.30 pm, repeated Wednesday 3 October at 3.15 pm.  Christianity has flourished amongst these oldest rocks and harshest weather conditions in the British Isles.  Against a background of political, social and religious turmoil, we glimpse a spiritual journey that began with St. Columba and continues to draw thousands of pilgrims every year.

If you would like to venture further afield, on Wednesday 24 October, I am leading a quiet day on The Life and Works of Charles Raven at Penhurst Retreat Centre (near Battle).  Raven was one of the greatest intellects and finest preachers of his generation.  A theologian and naturalist he addressed issues of science and religion, peace and reconciliation, and feminism.  Bookings should be made with the Centre on www.penhurst.org.uk, or by ‘phone on 01424 892088 or email info@penhurst.org.uk.
